JOTA, A DOUBT FOR CUP FINAL

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota is a big doubt ahead of the Carabao Cup final clash with Chelsea on Sunday evening. The Portuguese player is doubtful for the game billed for the iconic Wembley Stadium due to the ankle injury that has forced him to miss the last two Liverpool games in the Premier League.

The Euro 2020 participant suffered the ankle injury in the first half of the Inter Milan game last week Wednesday and he had to be taken off at half-time with Brazilian star Roberto Firmino replacing him. Firmino went on to break the deadlock in the last quarter of the Champions League last 16 first leg game before Mohamed Salah added a second goal to put Liverpool in a very good position to qualify for the quarterfinals at the expense of Inter Milan and ahead of the second leg at Anfield next month.

Euro 2020 participant Jota missed both the Norwich City and Leeds United games in the league on the back of picking up the ankle problem against Inter.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave an injury update on Jota ahead of the final as he said that it would be a challenge for the Euro 2020 participant to make it but he has not been completely ruled out. According to him, it is a good sign that the former Wolves player has not shown any reaction after he returned to training.

Klopp also had his say on the muscle injury which has ruled Firmino out of the Carabao Cup final. He said that the Brazilian international is pushing himself hard, but he won’t be available for the game. The German tactician is hoping that the former TSG Hoffenheim star returns to action very soon.

Firmino and Jota are the only ones carrying injury amongst the Liverpool players ahead of the Chelsea clash in the Carabao Cup final.

SANCHO INEFFECTIVE DURING PREMIER LEAGUE OPENER

England international Jadon Sancho was largely effective as his Manchester United side were beaten 2-1 by Brighton and Hove Albion on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.Jadon Sancho is at the start of his second season at Manchester United, but he’s yet to produce his best form for the club having joined them from Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga.

For the Brighton game, new Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag started Sancho on the right side of his attack. It was the first Manchester United game for Ten Hag in the Premier League since his appointment earlier this summer. JadonSancho was easily nullified on the right side of the Manchester United attack with visitors Brighton establishing a two-goal advantage at the end of the first half.

German midfielder Pascal Gross signed a new two-year deal at the club this summer to take his time with the Seagulls to the end of the 2023/24 season and he was responsible for the two Brighton goals against Manchester United. The two goals from the German were scored in the space of nine first half minutes. His first arrived on the half-hour mark before he completed his brace with six minutes of first half action left. Manchester United applied pressure on the Brighton rearguard in the second half and it paid off midway into the second half when Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister scored an own goal. Afterwards, Brighton held on to seal a famous win at the Theatre of Dreams.

Brighton had never recorded a win over Manchester United in the Premier League era until their 4-0 victory in May. They have now won their last two Premier League encounters with the latest result from the game on Sunday afternoon in Manchester. Newcastle United at home is the next game for Brighton in the Premier League, while Manchester United would travel to London to take on Brentford.
