AQUILANI BELIEVES LIVERPOOL STILL ONE OF THE BEST CLUBS

It is quite challenging to describe Liverpool Football Club right now to a non-football person as one of the best clubs in the world, especially given their current run of poor form. The Reds are currently having a very turbulent season, one so turbulent that not a single person would have imagined but despite all of that, it is not expected that Jurgen Klopp will be having his managerial role to worry about. There have been reports that Liverpool made a huge mistake allowing Sadio Mane to leave the club in the summer, with many insisting that the Selegal international superstar was their best player instead of Mohammed Salah, who many others think is better.

While the Merseyside outfit have been struggling for form and consistency so far this current campaign, Mane, on the other hand, has been flourishing for Bayern Munich since joining the German Bundesliga giants some few months ago. Although Salah scored a brace as Jurgen Klopp and his men secured a nerve-calming 2-0 win against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday night,  he has been accuse dof being largely underwhelming so far this season, given his quality and usual output in the Liverpool attack

Alberto Aquilani revealed in a recent interview that regardless of what his former club are going through at the moment, he still sees them as one of the best clubs in the world right now and stated that nothing would change that thought in his head. The former Reds attacker also added that even though he has been unimpressed by the club in recent times he is still rooting for them to return even stronger and challenge the teams that are currently on fire in the Premier League, Arsenal and Manchester City and give them a big challenge.

MILAN MISS OUT ON BIG OPPORTUNITY

Italian football giants AC Milan failed to take advantage of a big opportunity in the Serie A title race after they failed to beat Udinese at home. A win over the team from Udine would have given AC Milan a four-point lead over city rivals Inter Milan at the Italian Serie A summit and boost their bid to win take the Serie A title away from Inter Milan this season. They could only manage a 1-1 draw with Udinese thereby opening just a two-point lead over the Nerazzuri.

Defending champions Inter Milan are going through a rough patch in Italian football at the moment and they took their winless run in the Serie A to four games with the goalless draw at the home of Genoa, but AC Milan could not capitalise on the current poor form by the Nerazzuri after recording draws in their last two games and against teams in the bottom seven. The Italian football heavyweights were forced to a 2-2 draw at bottom team Salernitanabefore they played out another draw with Udinese who are in 14th place on the Italian Serie A log.

AC Milan took a first half lead against Udinese at home through in-form Portuguese attacker Rafael Leao who has been attracting the interest of Premier League clubs such as Arsenal due to his form. His goal came in the 29th minute and it made him the third Portuguese player to score at least 20 Serie A goals after Milan legend Rui Costa and Cristiano Ronaldo. Rui Costa has 42 Serie A goals to his name, while Manchester United star Ronaldo has 82 Serie A goals. Destiny Udogie proved to be the saviour for Udinese after he scored their equaliser around the midway point of the second half.

Milan were on a two-match winning run in the Italian Serie A before the Salernitana game. After the draw with Udinese, AC Milan have 57 points, while title rivals Inter Milan and Napoli have 55 points and 54 points respectively. Inter and Napoli have a game in hand on AC Milan.

JOTA, A DOUBT FOR CUP FINAL

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota is a big doubt ahead of the Carabao Cup final clash with Chelsea on Sunday evening. The Portuguese player is doubtful for the game billed for the iconic Wembley Stadium due to the ankle injury that has forced him to miss the last two Liverpool games in the Premier League.

The Euro 2020 participant suffered the ankle injury in the first half of the Inter Milan game last week Wednesday and he had to be taken off at half-time with Brazilian star Roberto Firmino replacing him. Firmino went on to break the deadlock in the last quarter of the Champions League last 16 first leg game before Mohamed Salah added a second goal to put Liverpool in a very good position to qualify for the quarterfinals at the expense of Inter Milan and ahead of the second leg at Anfield next month.

Euro 2020 participant Jota missed both the Norwich City and Leeds United games in the league on the back of picking up the ankle problem against Inter.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gave an injury update on Jota ahead of the final as he said that it would be a challenge for the Euro 2020 participant to make it but he has not been completely ruled out. According to him, it is a good sign that the former Wolves player has not shown any reaction after he returned to training.

Klopp also had his say on the muscle injury which has ruled Firmino out of the Carabao Cup final. He said that the Brazilian international is pushing himself hard, but he won’t be available for the game. The German tactician is hoping that the former TSG Hoffenheim star returns to action very soon.

Firmino and Jota are the only ones carrying injury amongst the Liverpool players ahead of the Chelsea clash in the Carabao Cup final.

SANCHO INEFFECTIVE DURING PREMIER LEAGUE OPENER

England international Jadon Sancho was largely effective as his Manchester United side were beaten 2-1 by Brighton and Hove Albion on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season.Jadon Sancho is at the start of his second season at Manchester United, but he’s yet to produce his best form for the club having joined them from Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga.

For the Brighton game, new Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag started Sancho on the right side of his attack. It was the first Manchester United game for Ten Hag in the Premier League since his appointment earlier this summer. JadonSancho was easily nullified on the right side of the Manchester United attack with visitors Brighton establishing a two-goal advantage at the end of the first half.

German midfielder Pascal Gross signed a new two-year deal at the club this summer to take his time with the Seagulls to the end of the 2023/24 season and he was responsible for the two Brighton goals against Manchester United. The two goals from the German were scored in the space of nine first half minutes. His first arrived on the half-hour mark before he completed his brace with six minutes of first half action left. Manchester United applied pressure on the Brighton rearguard in the second half and it paid off midway into the second half when Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister scored an own goal. Afterwards, Brighton held on to seal a famous win at the Theatre of Dreams.

Brighton had never recorded a win over Manchester United in the Premier League era until their 4-0 victory in May. They have now won their last two Premier League encounters with the latest result from the game on Sunday afternoon in Manchester. Newcastle United at home is the next game for Brighton in the Premier League, while Manchester United would travel to London to take on Brentford.

ALLAN DOUBTFUL FOR WEST LONDON TRIP

Everton midfielder Allanis a big doubtahead of the trip to West London to face newly promoted club Brentford in the Premier League this weekend. Allan is doubtful for the away game against Brentford due to injury. The Brazilian picked up a muscle strain during theToffees’ last Premier League game at holders Manchester City.

Rafael Benitez had a lot of injury issues to deal with in the Everton midfield ahead of the Manchester City gameand the injury picked up by Allan has compounded his woes in midfield ahead of the game with the Bees on Sunday. The other injured players in the Everton midfield are Abdoulaye Doucoure, Andre Gomes and Tom Davies. Frenchman Doucourehas missed several weeks of action and he could return to the Everton squad for the Brentford game as revealed by Benitez in his latest press conference this week.

Spanish tactician Benitez was an unpopular choice amongst the Everton fans when he was made the Toffees manager this summer and he was able to silence his doubters in the first few weeks of the season after leading his new club to the top four places on the Premier League log. Majority of the Everton fans had an issue with his appointment as he was previously the manager of Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

The wheels have fallen off for Benitez in his job as the Everton manager in recent weeks after his team picked up one point from a possible 15. Also, they are on a run of six games without a win. The Brentford game gives Benitez the opportunity to lead his team to a Premier League victory for the first time in two months ahead of the Merseyside Derby clash with Liverpool next week Wednesday. Everton are no longer in the top half on the Premier League log following their recent poor run.

CITY SET ASKING PRICE FOR STERLING

Raheem Sterling has been an important player for Premier League holders Manchester City over the past seasons. However, his status in the team has changed since the middle of last season. His spot in the starting XI is no longer a certainty at Manchester City. Barcelona target Sterling has seen his status change from a certain starter to an uncertain starter since the middle of the last campaign. His situation as a possible starter has been affected further by the arrival of England national team colleague Jack Grealish from fellow Premier League side Aston Villa.

Also, Sterling and his representatives have been in contract talks with Manchester City as confirmed by English publication Metro, but an agreement over a new deal has not been reached.

The ongoing contract impasse has prompted Manchester City officials to set an asking price for Sterling in the event of a sale. The player would be sold if an agreement over a new deal is not reached and La Liga giants Barcelona have been strongly linked with a move for him.

Barcelona target Sterling has 18 months left on his contract and he could be on the move in the January transfer window if Manchester City receive a good offer for him. It has been reported that Manchester City would be open to a £50m deal for Sterling. German champions Bayern Munich paid a similar amount for Leroy Sane when they signed him from Manchester City at the start of last season.

Sterling has struggled to score goals for Premier League heavyweights Manchester City this season. He has two goals and one assist in 15 games in all competitions. The Barcelona target has scored once in nine matches on the Premier League scene. His lone goal in the league this season came during the 5-0 home win over bottom team Norwich City.

SMITH: ASTON VILLA WILL BE BETTER NEXT SEASON

Aston Villa manager Dean Smith has assured the club’s fans that the club will become even better next season following their strong end to the season. At the beginning of the season, Villa were one of the best clubs and maintained their position in the top 2 places in the Premier League after a couple of fine performances that saw them produce some spectacular results during the opening few weeks of the current campaign. Their first match of the season saw them thump Liverpool 7-2 at home and it was a result that sent shock waves across the footballing world.

Their emphatic performance in that match was already tagged as one of the best performances and results of the season and it still rings in the head of the Aston Villa manager. However, as the season drew closer to an end, their form waned and they slowly moved downward in the table as they were unable to maintain the lethal form they started the season with.

One of the major reasons Villa were able to establish themselves as one of the best teams of the opening weeks of the season was due to the electric form of their captain and star midfielder, Jack Grealish. The England international midfielder is the club’s best player and they have suffered immensely when he has not played this season.

Grealish has been attracting a lot of interest from top clubs in the league, including Manchester United and their neighboring rivals Manchester City. However, Smith believes that even though the rumors will continue making the rounds about their star midfielder leaving Villa Park, they will do everything they can to keep him at the club and he will be starting next season with them.

The manager also added that since they now have Grealish back to fitness, and with the youngsters they currently have in the squad, they will be a better side next season.

The 36-year-old spent several years in English football before moving to Sweden.

The first and only goal of his professional career came in the colours of Helsingborgsearlier in the summer during the 2-2 draw with Falkenbergs in the league.Anders Lindegaard scored an injury time equaliser for his team as Helsingborgs were able to earn a share of the spoils during the league game played on July 19, 2020. With Helsingborgs trailing 2-1 in added time, Anders Lindegaard went for a corner kick to try to influence things for his team and he was able to achieve his feat after he scored the equalising goal.

Anders Lindegaard was hugely successful at the start of his career in the Scandinavia as he won the Goalkeeper of the Year Award in Denmark and Norway. After his exploits with the Scandinavian clubs, the five-cap Danish international moved to the Premier League with Manchester United where he made 19 appearances in the league over his five-year stay at the Theatre of Dreams.
